The U-Flyte team successfully tested the high-performance Quantum Systems Tron UAV combined with a Yellowscan Ultra Surveyor LiDAR today from their test-flight centre near Kiltale, Co Meath. The Tron, funded through the SFI NATDaP Research Infrastructure project (18/RI/5810) is capable of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations and can capture either LiDAR (600KHz) or ortho-mosaic over hundreds of hectares in <50 minutes.
This latest platform will be used by the research team to acquire multi-modal geospatial data and research innovative information services for Grasslands, Forestry and Critical Infrastructure management here in Ireland.
